From February 5–6, the JS4 students enjoyed an exciting overnight adventure at Norval Outdoor School. During our stay, we took part in a variety of fun and challenging activities, including cross-country skiing, tobogganing, orienteering, and a Habitracks hike.
Bundled up in winter gear, we all got ready for fun adventures ahead. One of the first activities was tobogganing. Before heading to the hill, we participated in a safety lesson and were fitted with helmets. Once outside, some of us raced down the hill with Norval staff and teachers, while others went to explore the forest, played Gaga ball, or built forts in the snow.
Cross-country skiing was another highlight. We were fitted with correct skis, boots, and poles to ensure safety, and everyone practiced skiing down a small hill before heading out on a trail. The trail took us through the forest, down hills, and past a creek. Smiles and laughter showed how much fun we were all having!
We also learned how to use a map to navigate the Norval grounds, and enjoyed a Habitracks hike. Working in groups, we acted as navigators, solving clues and riddles to identify a mystery animal. Along the way, we discovered an animal skull and an antler, completed an obstacle course, and finished with a skipping challenge.
A special highlight of the trip was the opportunity to sleep overnight in the Winter Tent. Nine of us chose this adventure, bundling up for the walk to the tent, settling into sleeping bags, enjoying stories, and spending a memorable night outdoors.
Overall, the JS4 girls had an amazing time at Norval. The activities were exciting, the food - and especially the Smurf juice - was a big hit, and everyone left with wonderful memories. We are already looking forward to our JS5 adventure at Norval next year!
