Grade 4 Students Bring Classroom Learning to Life at Mountsberg Conservation Area

Our Grade 4 students participated in an engaging and educational fall experience to the Mountsberg Conservation Area, providing real-world application for their classroom learning about habitats and life cycles.
The day began with an immersive survival-themed team game, where students navigated three engaging rounds, strategizing to find food and secure hiding spots. This hands-on activity provided a dynamic, real-world context for their current studies, demonstrating the delicate balance of life cycles and ecosystem roles. JS4 students Emma B. and Jane T. reflected on the learning experience: “We played this game because at school we are learning about habitats, so in this game there were herbivores, omnivores, carnivores, diseases, elements, and humans who all have a special role in life cycles. Through the three full rounds of this game, we learned strategies and found more hiding spots and places to collect food. We were able to put our learning into action.”

Emma B. and Jane T. also shared the highlights of their nature discoveries: “We also enjoyed our afternoon hike to the reservoir and through the forest, where those who went to the reservoir discovered an exoskeleton of a crayfish and those who went to the forest found salamanders under a big log.”

This experience allowed JS4 students to connect their classroom studies to the complexity and beauty of the natural world. Their enthusiasm for discovery and hands-on learning made the day memorable.
