The STEM Commons: Designed for Girls. Built for the Future.

Through thoughtful investment in our campus, we are creating learning environments that reflect how girls learn best — spaces that inspire confidence, curiosity, and leadership today and for generations to come. Each project is intentionally designed to deliver meaningful, lasting impact for our entire school community.

At SMLS, we believe the learning environment itself plays a vital role in education. Often described as the “third teacher,” alongside educators and peers, well-designed spaces actively shape how students engage, collaborate, and grow. Flexible, welcoming, and responsive to student needs, our campus spaces are designed to spark creativity, foster independence, and support deep, joyful learning across all stages of a girl’s education.

In the summer of 2026, SMLS will refresh the main floor of the South Wing, including the science labs, math classrooms, and the Middle and Senior School locker areas — the academic heart of our older students. This new learning hub will unite these two creating spaces where girls learn deeply, work together, and become bold leaders.

Key features include:
  • Refreshed science labs and math classrooms
  • New study rooms designed for focused learning and collaboration
  • Updated locker areas with improved flow and increased natural light
Legacy Lockers
With a gift of $1,000+, donors will be recognized with a custom name plate on one of our new lockers. This limited opportunity offers a meaningful way to celebrate your connection to SMLS.

*Please note: Recognition cannot be in the name of a current student; family names, parent name(s) or alumnae names are welcome (e.g., “The Muhammad Family”, or “Sam Lee and Grace Wang”, or “Sue SMITH Bradley ’08”).
