Reflecting on Crawford Lake: The Grade 5 Experience

By Antonia and Ira
The JS5 Millies enjoyed a field trip to Crawford Lake where they learned about the legends of the lake, explored the longhouses of the Five Nations, and also played lacrosse!
The longhouses were a key attraction for all the JS5 students. While not a completely realistic replica of the original longhouses, the longhouses still gave the feeling of what life in them was like for Indigenous People. A fire was lit, though not long-lasting, it put the smell of home into the longhouse. It was really interesting to learn about how families lived together in these longhouses, and how they were built over time. The other memorable experience was playing lacrosse for the first time. We look forward to learning more about this game in the future. Overall, the JS5 students all had an amazing time on their field trip to Crawford Lake, and are grateful for all the SMLS faculty who helped make this experience possible.
