Celebrating a Year of Community, Growth, and Success

Catherine Hant, Head of School
As always, I’m struck by the bittersweet nature of the end of term. On one hand, it’s sad to say goodbye to our graduating Millies, but we are so proud of how all our students have grown academically and personally over the past 10 months.
As a community, this year brought record attendance at our cherished traditional events, including the Welcome Back BBQ, Millie Christmas, and a beautifully sunny Millie Mayfair. We also introduced fantastic new community events, such as our parent grade socials (hosted in partnership with the PA), the popular Donuts & Daughters, and our inaugural SMLS at the Ball Game - which was an initiative brought forward by one of our very own Grade 10 Millies. Each of these occasions connects students, parents and employees together and deepens the pride we share in our school’s strength and rich history.

This year, Millies worked collaboratively and independently on projects that sparked their passion and affected our community. That empowerment ranged from the Grade 3 battery recycling project to our senior students critically challenging the impact of social media on their lives.

Our school theme, Making Waves, perfectly captures the achievements of this year's graduates who received an impressive 265 offers of admission. Notably, 42% of the class applied internationally, and all received admission offers. We also witnessed the growing success of our debate and public speaking team in Junior, Middle and Senior School with national qualifications and levels of achievement. Our environmental council also made waves in student leadership by helping our community reduce its ecological footprint and build a sustainable future, ultimately earning the prestigious Platinum level of recognition.

When we return next school year, you can expect exciting campus updates designed to foster academic excellence beyond the classroom. We are renovating the STEM Commons to add more study rooms and introducing a much-anticipated Study Hall for MS6 to SS12. These upgrades will provide optimal spaces for both dynamic collaboration and quiet independent study.

Summer is a wonderful time to enjoy the outdoors with family after a long winter. However, we know that summer also brings the challenge of managing extra free time and screen use. To support you in having meaningful family conversations around digital boundaries, I invite you to explore this resource: Helping Your Child Manage Digital Technology from School Mental Health. We are constantly monitoring new research on the use of digital technology in pedagogy, as well as recent federal legislation on online safety for children, and will continue to share relevant information and our next steps with you. Navigating the digital world isn't something any of us has to do alone; by working together in partnership, we can support our students in finding a healthy balance that allows them to truly thrive.

Thank you for an incredible year. I wish all of our families a summer filled with rest, joy, and balance.
