Our academic program utilizes the highest standard of proven best practices and innovative approaches. We identify each girl’s academic strengths and challenges, so that we can support her in achieving success and confidence in her own abilities.
Whole-Girl Development
We focus on the social, emotional, spiritual and physical wellbeing of every girl from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. We understand developmental stages of girls and work with each girl to ensure she is known, supported, and challenged to be her best self.
Experts in Girls' Learning
Our faculty members are experts in their fields, with extensive experience in teaching and learning designed for girls. They get to know each girl and form a personalized connection to help her thrive in her education at SMLS and beyond.
Real World Learning
Our program integrates academic studies with relevant career and life experiences, allowing students to gain a deeper personal understanding of the world around them and to develop as global citizens and leaders.
Real World Results
With admittance to their first choice of post-secondary institutions, our grads are poised to
become women who will challenge and change the world in their own, unique way. Our goal is not only to prepare girls for post-secondary education, but to provide them with the courage and skill to pursue their individual passions.

An SMLS experience is all about helping students find and pursue their interests and passions. To help with that, we offer a wide-range of co-curricular programming that helps introduce students to new ideas and experiences. The opportunity to try new things in the safe and nurturing environment that our community and our all-girls environment offers means students get to grow their confidence and comfort levels easily.
Lunchtime and after-school, from robotics to knitting, fitness to stock markets, choirs to biomedical clubs, and so much more, SMLS is proud to have clubs, committees and co-curriculars to help feed and nourish every student’s interests.
It’s always a thrill to usher in a new school year. The energy and excitement that has filled our halls, classrooms and gathering spaces this month have been wonderfully uplifting. The smiles, the warm embraces and the high fives were exchanged en masse as we welcomed both new and returning students and families.
This was also evident during our opening chapel on Wednesday, when our youngest and oldest students gathered together in celebration of a new year with new opportunities and possibilities. Our prefects also began a new tradition of launching a school theme for the year, which is: Thrive Together; break barriers and embrace possibilities. This practice of empowering our young people to define a focus and spark positive momentum that will be carried throughout the year is important within our community.
Each year, graduates of SMLS’s educational program receive admissions to top-choice universities around the globe alongside scholarships that cumulatively total over $1 million. The Class of 2023 collectively received 431 offers of admission from leading universities, nationally and internationally. In addition, to date our grads have been offered merit-based awards and scholarships totalling over $1 million, including:
Queen’s University Chancellor’s Scholarship
University of British Columbia’s Presidential Scholars Award
University of Toronto's Dean's Merit Award
University of Waterloo President's Scholarship with Distinction
McMaster University Engineering Award of Excellence
We are so proud of these inspiring Millies and can’t wait to see all that they will accomplish.
Graduates from SMLS thrive in life beyond high school as well because they are well-prepared for the real world thanks to the practical components of the school’s programming, including professional internships, foundations in active healthy living, global competencies, and workshops for university preparations. SMLS is extremely proud to be one of the strongest award centres for the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award program. This year, as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the award in Canada, a number of Millies were selected to be a part of a very special celebration this week.
Three SMLS alumnae were presented with their Gold Level award
Grade 11 student, Laila C., provided a live art installation as part of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Ceremony
Six Senior School students who are currently working on their Gold Level Awards participated in a Youth Summit, connecting with other GTA award participants and discovering more about their own personal leadership.
Grade 11 student, Sophia T., wowed an audience that included HRH Prince Edward, performing her original songs and sharing stories about her songwriting and journey to becoming a performer.
We are so extremely proud of our Millies. It is a privilege and an honour to provide our students with these kinds of opportunities over the course of their school careers.
It is with great excitement that we announce the appointment of Catherine Hant as the next Head of School at St. Mildred's-Lightbourn School.
Once an SMLS student, her experience at our school is said to have been transformative, ultimately leading to her lifelong career that's focused on girls’ education and leadership. Her track record of fostering academic excellence, promoting inclusive and equitable practices, and building strong and collaborative relationships within school communities will bring exciting fresh perspectives, innovative ideas and continued positive growth to our school community.
In honour of International Women’s Day, we welcomed renowned singer-songwriter and humanitarian, Susan Aglukark, O.C. to our school, who helped us learn about and celebrate the brilliance, the resilience and the achievements of women over time and all over the world.

"SMLS prepares students to succeed in their post-secondary experiences and life beyond the pillars, through academic challenges such as AP courses, support such as extra help lessons and, most importantly, talented and dedicated teachers and the peers who surround you. I feel excited for what the future holds.”
