SMLS Memories From Head Prefect

Addie C.
As the year comes to an end and my graduation day nears, I have found myself reflecting with overwhelming gratitude on all that I have experienced at St. Mildred’s. Thanks to the all-girls student body, St. Mildred’s is a school specifically designed to inspire female success and leadership. Within the halls of SMLS, the wonderful staff and teachers have pushed me to challenge myself with the security of knowing I belong to a community that will lift me up if I fall and encourage me to try again. The everlasting enthusiasm of my peers and classmates created an environment where I feel empowered to follow my passions without hesitation. Whether it was my position as Head Prefect or Co-Chair of the SocDoc Committee, or even performing in school musicals or playing on the soccer team, I poured myself into all opportunities that came my way. This was only possible because of the strong foundation of support that my peers and teachers laid.
Through the Global Citizenship programs, I have had the opportunity to reach beyond SMLS and explore who I am within both an international and local context. As a Round Square International Conference Delegate, I practiced the IDEALS of internationalism, democracy, environment, adventure, leadership, and service, while learning from the Maasai Mara tribe and immersing myself in Kenya’s rich culture. During my professional internship at Global News’ The Morning Show, I explored journalism through entertainment which has equipped me for my post-secondary education at Sarah Lawrence College to study filmmaking.

After five years at St. Mildred’s, I have full confidence in my knowledge and leadership abilities, as well as complete trust that I am acutely prepared for the world outside of SMLS. I am deeply appreciative of the students, staff, and faculty of St. Mildred’s for helping shape me into the person I am today. While I will miss my time at St. Mildred’s, I know the SMLS community will always welcome me back. Once a Millie, always a Millie.
