Supportive Community
Overview

Amy Holland ‘89

“My education at SMLS set me on a path with high expectations of myself, and gave me the confidence to pursue whatever I wanted, without limitation.”
Amy Holland and her family are very familiar with the independent school environment. “My grandmother, father, three brothers and myself all attended independent schools. My parents were educators themselves, and knew from experience how important it is to have exposure to the bigger world, and especially people from all walks of life.”

Amy came to SMLS in Grade 3 and still cherishes the community she found here. “SMLS provided me with a stable environment, gave me a sense of connectedness, kept me grounded and gave me an extended family.“ Amy’s best friends remain those that she met at SMLS, including one whom she met on her very first day. “There’s a level of comfort and familiarity in those friendships that cannot be matched. They’ve gone through everything with you, so they know exactly who I am, even all these years later.”

Amy is proud to see the growth of SMLS today. “The breadth of opportunity here allows girls to find their niche. I remember we always had incredible guest speakers, and I would think, ‘If the person standing in front of me could do that, what could I do?’ They inspired me to work hard toward my current and future goals. It was visionary.”

For the past twenty years, Amy has been a strong supporter of our Student Financial Assistance program. “My education at SMLS set me on a path with high expectations of myself and gave me the confidence to pursue whatever I wanted, without limitation. That was one of the greatest gifts I was given. I donate to help give another girl that same gift.”
