Bon Appétit! A Voyage in French Cuisine!

The tastes and aromas of French cuisine came to life recently as our SS2 French students and their teacher Mme Talaat co-developed a French recipe book as part of a unit project.
The tastes and aromas of French cuisine came to life recently as our SS2 French students and their teacher Mme Talaat co-developed a French recipe book as part of a unit project.

The project entailed selecting and creating French dishes, and capturing the process on video in the form of a cooking show. Very creative!  Not only did their French skills improve, but so did their culinary abilities! This experience was further enriched with a trip to Cinéfranco, which celebrates and promotes the diversity and richness of French language cinema. They watched an authentic French film, which was followed up with discussion and analysis in class. That same day, the girls enjoyed a classic French meal at “Le Paradis Bistro” in Toronto, where they read and ordered from the menu in French.

Mrs. Wilczynski, a parent who attended the presentations, provided the following feedback:

“I would like to commend you and the girls for coming up with such a unique and interesting way to showcase their oral French skills. It was evident from the videos I watched that the girls put a lot of effort into their work and, at the same time, enjoyed the experience.  As a parent, it is wonderful to see them demonstrating collaboration, French language skills, organizational skills, and culinary talents together in one presentation. The food was delicious and I thank you and girls for giving me such a warm welcome.”

Claire Floras SS2 student:
“Le projet des recettes a été une façon géniale d'intégrer la culture Française, le développement de vocabulaire et de grammaire et l'apprentissage de terrain. Je pense que tout le monde dans notre classe l'a aimé.”

“The SS2 French Recipes project was a great way to incorporate French culture, hands-on learning, and vocabulary building. I think that everyone in the class enjoyed it!”
