SMLS Teachers Honoured with Prime Minister’s Award for Teaching Excellence

On October 7th, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry, and the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families, on behalf of the Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, announced the 2025 recipients of the Prime Minister’s Awards, which included two teachers from SMLS.

These prestigious awards recognize exceptional teachers who inspire students, motivate colleagues, and drive innovation in Canadian education.
Dr. Scott Pollock, a Social Sciences and Humanities Teacher in SMLS’s Senior School, received a Prime Minister’s Award Certificate of Achievement for Teaching Excellence. Dr. Pollock is recognized for his innovative teaching, integration of technology, and commitment to helping students critically engage with social issues.

Mrs. Aaron Warner, an SMLS Senior School Mathematics Teacher, received a Prime Minister’s Award Certificate of Achievement in STEM. Mrs. Warner inspires her students to develop confidence, critical thinking, and a genuine appreciation for mathematics, and is actively engaged in the mathematics community, supporting national competitions through the University of Waterloo’s Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing.

With an average tenure of over eight years, SMLS teachers serve as guiding lights, mentors, and advocates, co-creating a vibrant learning environment where girls are encouraged to explore, take risks, and develop a lifelong love of learning.

Please join us in celebrating Dr. Pollock and Mrs. Warner on their incredible achievements and well-deserved recognition.
