Grade 7 Art Students Participate in Memory Project for Syrian Youth

As part of the Memory Project, every Grade 7 student at SMLS created a portrait of a Syrian youth who is living in a refugee camp, using photos as a reference. Their original artwork was sent to the Memory Project Organization in the United States, which facilitated the delivery of the art work to the children in the portraits. The intent of the portraits is to help the children feel valued and important, to know that many people care about their well being, and to act as meaningful pieces of personal history in the future. For art students who participate, the project is intended to be an opportunity to creatively practice kindness and global awareness.

More information can be found on the Memory Project website at: https://memoryproject.org

A video was made to capture the reaction of the children who received portraits of themselves. Click here to watch the video.
