SMLS Girls Advance to DECA Provincials

Four SMLS students will move on to the DECA Provincials in February, competing in Entrepreneurship, Hospitality and Tourism, and Finance. Through conferences and competitions, DECA instills professionalism and prepares youth to respond to authentic business cases and market demands.
Congratulations to all of the SMLS girls who competed in DECA at the Regionals in Whitby earlier this month. DECA is an organization that prepares emerging leaders for various careers through competitive events, professional development and leadership conferences. Every member chooses a topic of interest, such as retail management, finance, marketing and hospitality.

In order to compete, girls completed an intense, online test prior to the competition. At Regionals, girls participated in either individual or team events. Students were required to read a business case, prepare an answer and present to a judge.
Four students from our 14-member team will advance to the Provincials next February. Amanda will compete in Entrepreneurship, Isabella and Ruqayah will compete in Hospitality and Tourism and Titi will compete in Finance.

Kudos to Titi, who was in the top ten for the multiple choice exam and the top ten for the oral presentation. She scored a 97% on her oral presentation, resulting in a silver medal in Finance for all private schools in Ontario.
