Junior School (Junior Kindergarten - Grade 5 entry)

Junior School Application Process

Application
All applicants must complete an online application accompanied by a $200 application fee, payable by credit card. The application is broken down into several sections and includes biographical and contact information, a parent questionnaire and a student questionnaire (for students entering Grades 3 and higher). To begin the application you will be asked to set up a MySMLS account. This account allows you to save and return to the application if you are not able to complete it in one sitting.

Supplementary Documents
The following items are required to complete the application:
  • Recent photo of the applicant
  • Proof of Date of Birth (copy of birth certificate or passport)
  • Final report cards for the previous 2 years (not applicable for JK applicants)
  • Report cards received during the current academic year
  • Confidential School Report Form - to be completed by a teacher or administrator at the applicant’s current school who knows her well. The form should be returned directly to admissions@smls.on.ca

Interviews
Interviews give us an opportunity to get to know the applicant and her family better. We try to arrange the Student & Parent Interviews on the same day. For families who do not live locally, interviews can be arranged via Skype.

Student Interview: Applicants to Grades 3 and above will meet with a member of the Admissions Team or a Junior School faculty member. We ask students to tell us about themselves and the things they like to do. This is not a job interview; there are no right or wrong answers.

Parent Interview: one or all parents should attend the parent interview. This is a chance for us to learn more about what you are looking for in a school for your daughter(s) and also for you to ask questions you may have about the school.

Testing
As part of the admissions process, applicants will spend time with a faculty member to complete some assessments that help us better understand the applicant’s areas of strength and needs. No preparation is necessary.

Admissions Notification
We will communicate admissions decisions by email. Assuming all application checklist items are complete, you can expect to hear from us as follows:
  • For applications submitted by October 31 (for entry the following September), we will communicate admissions decisions by mid-December.
  • For applications submitted by February 14 (for entry the following September), we will communicate admissions decisions by mid-March.
  • All other applications are handled on a rolling basis and decisions will be communicated once the application is complete.
