Community Service

Our Senior School students are very involved in the local community and often spread their wings to further locales.

Involvement includes participating in both local and international causes and events including but not limited to; galas, fundraisers, golf tournaments, silent auctions, community races, supporting events by participating in them and raising donations.

Some of our annual favourites include the following:

Terry Fox Walk (September) - In 2008 SMLS raised $26,000 continuing a 10 year history of being an Aggett Bowl winner. This trophy goes to the school that has raised the most money for this event.

FIRST LEGO® League Provincial Championship (December) - Over 100 student and staff/faculty volunteers are involved in hosting 40 teams from across the province at this event taking place at SMLS.

Mosaic Multicultural Festival (February) - This favourite annual celebration initiated by a former SMLS Head Girl, raises money through ticket and food sales for local grassroots and international charities chosen by students.

Special Olympics (May) - The Home Town Games Soccer Tournament is hosted and run by SMLS at no cost to participants. Over 100 volunteers (students, parents and faculty/staff) support this tournament and raise money through pizza, raffle and bake sales.

Relay for Life (June) - In the past few years SMLS has raised over $10,000 per year for the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Teams from Grades 6 to S2 (from 60-120 students), along with members of staff and faculty participate and at the event as volunteers or as team members. SMLS parents have demonstrated their support in the past by being the Co-Chairs of this event!
