President's Welcome

St Mildred's-Lightbourn School was a warm, friendly environment with smiling faces from the first time I walked into the School with my husband. Not only the students but the teachers too.

Since our eldest daughter first started at SMLS in 2002, this has not changed. The School has wonderfully talented and caring teachers as its foundation, plus fabulous facilities, that are continually being enhanced, to enable teachers to do the job they do so well. Our girls reap the benefits.

Hello, my name is Judith Nunn and I am honoured to be the President of the Parent Association. Our focus is fellowship and fundraising.

Every parent that has a daughter at SMLS is automatically a member of the Parent Association, but we always welcome parents to become active serving members, volunteering with us. We welcome everyone, both ladies and gentlemen, who can spare some time on a regular basis to help us support the School. The PA meets on the first Wednesday of every month and Parents are invited to attend.

One of our favourite activities is to host a luncheon for new parents on the first day of school. This is one way we help new parents transition into the SMLS community. Our New Parent Liaison representative is focused on the important priority of welcoming new families.

As President, I see my role as a representative for the parent body, overseeing the PA's important fundraising and community building activities, by capitalizing on the creativity and the enthusiasm of our PA Members.

My goal for 2010 is to build on our accomplishments in 2009. Our focus, friend-raising. Without friend-raising our fundraising will not succeed. We understand that parents like to meet other parents in a social setting. We have plans for our usual series of events for the school community and hope to introduce a new event in the spring. In many cases we have parent and daughter evening or weekend events that with your support, are well attended.

Look out for a Dads-only event and a second Latin Dance Night to warm the ladies up in January. I hope that this year will also be a strong year for the PA for fundraising. We will continue to offer events and items for sale and the profits will go back to the school.

I work very closely with Jane Wightman, Head of the School, to make sure the PA provides maximum support for the School throughout the year.

If you wish to volunteer your time or have any questions about the PA and how you can contribute, please contact me. A PA Enrolment form is available on site for you to complete and fax or send in.
