President's Welcome
Welcome from the Parent Association (PA)! My name is Dianne Lemieux and I am entering my last year of a two-year term as President of the SMLS PA. I joined the PA in 2002 and over the years have taken on various roles. Being a PA member has given me the opportunity to meet and work with parents and teachers in different grades whom I might not have otherwise met. As PA President I also enjoy working closely with the Head of School.
Since walking through the front door of SMLS in 2000, I have witnessed its many physical changes and improvements, but the one thing that hasn't changed over the years is the warm, caring and nurturing environment fostered by the teachers and staff. I am certainly proud to be working within such a fine community.
As President, l view my role as being two-fold: 1) acting as liaison between the parents and the School and 2) overseeing the activities carried out by the PA.
The focus of the PA is fellowship and fundraising. Every parent with a daughter at SMLS is automatically a member of the PA. An Executive Branch that meets the second Wednesday of every month runs the Parent Association. I would encourage you to attend one of these meetings to learn firsthand what is happening at your School.
The PA could not be the vibrant organization that it is today without the numerous volunteers that help organize and run our activities, such as Traditions of Christmas, Book Fair, Staff Appreciation Lunch, Gala, Mad Hatter's Tea Party, Father-Daughter Bingo, Ladies' Golf Day, Used Uniform Sale, Made For Millies Store and parent communications. I hope that you will come out and enjoy some of these activities during the year and perhaps even consider volunteering your time.
The goal for the PA in 2011-2012 is simply to build on our past achievements. In October, we will host our next fun event, "An Evening at Edgemere" - I hope you will plan to join us on October 14th, 2011. Please watch for details.
