Donna Cossitt

“I believe in SMLS and what it does for girls.”

For the past 36 years, Donna Cossitt has warmly welcomed every family and student to the SMLS community. Donna is our Community Liaison and a passionate believer in the value of an all-girls education.

Not only does Donna work tirelessly to extend the warmth of the SMLS community to our newest families, she also supports the school financially. “I’m putting my money back into this institution because I believe in SMLS and what it does for girls.”

Donna directs her support towards student Financial Assistance and bettering our facilities. “The better the facilities, the more it attracts families to our great school. And, our bursary program gives girls the chance to come to SMLS that wouldn’t normally have that chance, and that makes me feel good.”

“When I started at SMLS, there were no gyms, no studio theatre, no dining hall and no fitness centre. Heck, we were all using typewriters! There are so many more resources available for our students thanks to our donors. Seeing the facilities and campus expand from a small school to what it is today really shows the difference our generous community can make. It has grown because of donations.”

One of the most satisfying aspects of her job is watching the girls grow each year and graduate as poised, accomplished young women. Given the length of her tenure at the school, Donna has had the added thrill of seeing graduates return to enroll their own children at SMLS.

When asked about her hope for the future of SMLS, Donna said, “I hope that everyone gives, because if everyone contributes what they can, when you put that all together, it’s really something!”
