Thanks to SMLS student Priya Sibal for capturing these wonderful memories of the Special Olympics Soccer Tournament that SMLS hosted for the 12th consecutive year last Saturday.

We welcomed teams from Toronto, Brampton, Burlington, Grimsby, St. Catharines, Mississauga, and Oakville for the FIFA World Cup”-themed event.

Our students believe that the Special Olympics Soccer Tournament is a very important part of the SMLS community and a wonderful event. The day was filled with laughter, cheers, healthy competition, and lots of smiles.

The Hometown Games began as a student presentation as part of the Toskan Casale Foundation’s Youth Philanthropic InitiativeToskan Casale provides a reality experience through a strong academic philanthropy program, giving students the skills to assess community needs. Through research students learn about the problems facing their own communities. The students then prepare a proposal for a request for funding. An independent judging panel assesses the proposal and awards a grant to the successful students.

We are already looking forward to next spring's tournament!
