Thanks to SMLS student Priya Sibal for capturing these wonderful memories of the Special Olympics Soccer Tournament that SMLS hosted for the 12^th consecutive year last Saturday.

We welcomed teams from Toronto, Brampton, Burlington, Grimsby, St. Catharines, Mississauga, and Oakville for the “FIFA World Cup”-themed event.

Our students believe that the Special Olympics Soccer Tournament is a very important part of the SMLS community and a wonderful event. The day was filled with laughter, cheers, healthy competition, and lots of smiles.

The Hometown Games began as a student presentation as part of the Toskan Casale Foundation’s Youth Philanthropic Initiative. Toskan Casale provides a reality experience through a strong academic philanthropy program, giving students the skills to assess community needs. Through research students learn about the problems facing their own communities. The students then prepare a proposal for a request for funding. An independent judging panel assesses the proposal and awards a grant to the successful students.

We are already looking forward to next spring's tournament!
