SMLS Hosts STEMinism Conference

Our FIRST robotics team SWAT 771 hosted their first annual STEMinism Conference last week, designed to get girls interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) through celebrating women who pursue careers in STEM, as well as breaking the stigma surrounding girls in these fields.

We welcomed several remarkable speakers, including the Vice President of Media for Twitter North AmericaKirstine Stewart, and our very own alumna Dr. Emily Moore '87, who is the Director of Water Technology at Hatch.

The girls also arranged a number of workshops to encourage discussion on both the causes of the gender inequality in STEM fields, as well as to encourage student leadership to run initiatives to promote girls in science. Delegates included students from St. Mildred's-Lightbourn SchoolHavergal College, and Crescent School to share this perspective to both male and female students.

Kudos to our STEMinism Committee for making this wonderful event come to life
