Beyond the Classroom
SMLS has a tradition of serving the community and looking beyond our walls. This continues the school’s long time commitment to service dating back to our roots from the Sisters of the Church, an Anglican Order, to students who, during wartimes, provided Red Cross care package for overseas troops. The service may have changed over the years, but the intent has not.

Annually, students in the Junior, Middle, and Senior Schools, and staff volunteer countless hours to local, national, and international organizations that represent social, environmental, and humanitarian interests.

Over the past five years, our students and staff have worked to raise over $420,000 for various local and international charities. Our girls know from an early age that giving back to our community is important and part of being a well-rounded global citizen.

Every fall, we are proud to be the host venue for Home Suite Hope’s Empty Bowls fundraiser, and in the spring, we host Special Olympics Hometown Games. Many of our Middle Level and Senior School girls are also involved with Oakville Teenagers in Action.

Some of our annual favourites include:

List of 6 items.

  • Terry Fox Walk (September)

SMLS has been awarded the coveted Aggett Bowl for 13 consecutive years for raising the most funds per school for this worthwhile cause.
  • The Inside Ride (September)

In our first year of this event, our students raised a record-breakign $85,000 to help families living with and beyond childhood cancer.
  • FIRST LEGO® League Provincial Championship (December)

Over 100 student and staff/faculty volunteers are involved in hosting 40 teams from across the province at this event taking place at SMLS.
  • Mosaic Multicultural Festival (February)

In the past few years SMLS has raised over $10,000 per year for the Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Teams from Grades 6 to S2 (from 60-120 students), along with members of staff and faculty participate and at the event as volunteers or team members.
