Natalie Jenner ‘87

2023 Outstanding Alumna Award

Natalie is a lawyer, entrepreneur and an internationally acclaimed author. Her award-winning books celebrate friendship and community, and serve to offer readers comfort and hope for the future. Since her graduation, Natalie has remained connected to SMLS, hosting special events for the school, serving as a mentor for graduating students, and volunteering with the SMLS Parent Association. Natalie's daughter, Phoebe also attended SMLS and graduated in 2018.

Sarah SHORNEY Baeumler ‘95 BA, PGDIB

2022 Outstanding Alumna Award

Sarah is a renowned designer, successful business owner, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.

The Sarah Baeumler Brand is about living a life that is inspiring and fulfilling. In 2012, Sarah and her family created The Baeumler Family Foundation (BFF), which fosters the advancement of children’s emotional and physical care, research and education in Canada.

Since her graduation, Sarah has remained connected to SMLS and is vocal about how proud she is to be part of our school community. Sarah served on our Board of Governors from 2014 to 2019 and is the parent of two SMLS alumnae, Charlotte ‘24 and Josephine ‘30.

Her time as a student at SMLS instilled in Sarah a deep sense of belonging and family that has followed her throughout her career journey. Sarah believes that SMLS taught her how to be a happy, productive and successful member of her community and beyond.

The Honourable Suzanne Duncan ‘79 BA, LLB, LL.M

2021 Outstanding Alumna Award

Justice Suzanne Duncan was appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Yukon by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on October 1, 2020. She is the first woman to hold the position. She has served as a justice on the Supreme Court of Yukon since November 2018, and immediately before her appointment served as in-house legal counsel for the Kwanlin Dün First Nation Government in Whitehorse.
 
As a child, Suzanne started kindergarten at The Lightbourn School in 1965 and continued through to graduation from St. Mildred’s-Lightbourn School in 1979 as Head Prefect. Her mother, Marjorie Duncan is a former SMLS Junior School teacher, and Suzanne is grateful to both of her parents for making the decision to send her to SMLS.
 
Suzanne credits her SMLS education as the solid foundation she needed in order to accomplish so many wonderful things throughout her life.
 
“With the privilege that a SMLS education provides comes responsibility: responsibility to use one's talents and skills to help others who may not have the same opportunities; responsibility to be self-aware and exercise humility; responsibility to acknowledge, respect and learn from the diversity of people in our communities; responsibility to be of service - to individuals, to a community, or to society."

Dr. Lauren TRIBE ‘87 BSc, BESc, PhD

2020 Outstanding Alumna Award

Dr. Briens is an engineer, professor, and the first female member of the senior administration at Western's Faculty of Engineering. She has achieved impressive research and career success. Dr. Briens served as the Assistant Dean, First Year Studies at Western University and became the first female Assistant Dean of Engineering in the history of the School. She holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering and has been a member of the faculty at Western University since 2001. 

Lauren was the recipient of the 2021-2022 R. Mohan Mathur Award for Excellence in Teaching. She was also selected to serve as the Teaching Fellow for the Faculty of Engineering in the Centre for Teaching and Learning at Western University for a three-year term starting in 2022. 

Lauren remains incredibly involved and supportive of SMLS, offering unlimited help and advice to students and alumnae interested in pursuing a degree in Engineering or attending Western University, guest speaking at school events, attending our annual London Area Reunion year after year, and becoming a member of our Board of Governors in 2022.
